Case Study - Aberdulais Golf Driving Range (updated 2007)

A golf driving range for all the family to enjoy – that’s the idea behind the Aberdulais Golf Driving Range in Neath. The range has been built by the Richards family, who used to farm the area before the A465 cut a swathe through their lands.  And now they have come up with a new concept of an all-round facility for the whole family to enjoy.  The Richards family approached Business for support in setting up this exciting new venture. The Advisors at Business Connect provided assistance with obtaining local authority funding, business advice and market research.

Business Advisor April Rossiter explained,
"“This was an innovative approach which we were sure would prove popular,” she said, "The range has become a facility for local communities and attracts visitors from farther afield because it has so much to offer.”

The golf driving range offers additional facilities as Andrew Richards explained,
“We have a restaurant and coffee shop serving Starbucks products which is open to the public. We also have canoeing and fishing facilities on our river."

The business is now performing well and is proving popular with local and tourists alike.  The poor weather has attracted golfers who are unable to play on the courses due to the heavy rain.  The restaurant is also doing well with Sunday dinners proving exceptionally popular.  The catering staff are now expanding their services and offering outside catering to local businesses, organisations and individuals.  The Range also caters for children's parties, Christenings, funerals, get togethers and other special occasions.  A new website is being created to showcase the facilities on offer.
