In November 2005, Business Connect made contact with HCM (South Wales) Ltd in Resolven and learned of their plans for expansion. This successful company specialises in the design, manufacture and refurbishment of hydraulic equipment.

HCM had identified the need to purchase a new overhead crane for installation at its commercial unit so that it could accept additional work from its existing customer base and to be able to tender for new work.

The proposed investment was a substantial commitment with funding required to enable the project to proceed. Completion of the project would create 2 or 3 new jobs and safeguard the existing workforce of 18.

A business plan along with financial forecasts were prepared with the help and support of Alan Doyle, Business Advisor at Business Connect, to support an application for local Authority funding toward the project cost.  The application was successful and the crane was subsequently purchased and installed.
